Please help us establish a permanent endowment for the Charles & Eleanor Wykle Scholarship Fund!

Hello!

A great teacher, like a great friend, gives us a sense of who to be as a person and helps us make sense of a complex world.  We know you had this teacher in high school.  We did, too.  You're already thinking of him.  We don't even have to say his name...

Over twenty-five years ago, a group of Charles Wykle’s former AHS students raised a scholarship fund in his name, mostly from a few willing parents and some pocket change from summer jobs at various BBQ joints around town.  Many years later, Mr. Wykle’s impact has resulted in much more enriched lives and a handful of life lessons that have withstood the test of time.  (For our part, we still open doors for ladies…)

The modest scholarship fund that was seeded in 1992 evolved into the Charles & Eleanor Wykle Scholarship Fund to also honor Eleanor, Charles’ dear deceased wife and fellow educator.  The Asheville City Schools Foundation (ACSF) continues to manage the fund, which selects a graduating senior from AHS to receive a minimum of $500.  But in order to ensure that this minimum amount gets awarded each year, and to increase this award, we need to raise more money to permanently endow the scholarship.

This is where you come in.  We need your participation in a new fundraising campaign.  Our goal is to raise $100,000 in celebration of Mr. Wykle’s 80th birthday this year.

Any corporate matching should be initiated through your employer and can be routed to Copland Arnold Rudolph (AHS ‘85), the Director of Development at ACSF ([email protected]).

Finally, we need to spread the word… the crowdfunding page may be shared directly via the ‘share button’ above.  We would be so grateful if you would share via social media and email this message to 10 friends.  We’ve set up a Facebook page to capture any comments and reflections.  Please stop by!

Thanks so much for helping!

Warm regards,

Ward Hendon (AHS ‘88) & Trent McDevitt (AHS ‘88)
